Meet the Team

Our Team

United Cornwall FC is proud to have a passionate team of Project Officers and Volunteers who make the whole project possible.

Each game has a session lead, who is supported to make sure the games go ahead in a safe and friendly manner, whilst also welcoming new players.

We also have a team of ambassadors, who promote our sessions to new communities.

Jack (He / Him) - Founder

I moved to Cornwall in 2014 and joined the local football team. This provided me with a community to be part of and something to do at the weekends. My incredibly average footballing career ended in 2016 due to injury, and for a long time I didn’t think I would play football again. Move on to 2020 and I started playing “Old Blokes Football”, which again gave me something to be part of, and improved my mental and physical wellbeing. It was on reflection across the many covid lockdowns, and how much I missed my weekly kick about, that the idea of UCFC was born.

It’s incredible what has been achieved by the UCFC team. From a personal level, I can now play social football every night of the week, and have made so many friends. It is more than a football team, it’s a community and one which I am proud to be part of.

Kieran (He / Him) - Project Officer

Football has been my life for as long as I can remember. From an early age I was taught how to play and for many years I had my Dad as my coach, both at home and in youth teams. Unfortunately around the age of 18, I ruptured my ACL and after a long recovery, both mentally and physically, I wasn’t able to get back into the swing of things from a football perspective.

That’s why when I saw United Cornwall starting up, I wanted to go along and give it a try. 2 years later, I’m proud to say I’m part of a team of great session leads, and one of the Project Officers as well. United Cornwall has enabled me to find the fun in football again.

Camborne

Ali (He / Him) - Location Lead, Penair

Social football has pretty much always been a part of my adult life.
After a serious injury and a move to Cornwall post-COVID lockdowns, I thought my playing days were over.
I saw Jack's post one evening and thought it would be good for me to get to know a few people down here and try to rebuild my ankle and fitness. I was at the first UCFC session and I loved it. Like minded people getting together to have a laugh and a kick about.
After about 6 months of playing (and loving it!) I put my name down to help out as a session lead.
I'm certainly not the best player, but can't really imagine my week without a UCFC session now. It's such a welcoming and supportive group, and it's been fantastic for getting to know people in Cornwall.
Whether you're a seasoned pro or haven't kicked a ball in years, come along and give it a go – you'll be made to feel welcome!

Ben (He / Him) - Session Lead, Newquay

I joined United Cornwall FC after moving to Newquay without knowing anyone, and it’s been a fantastic way to make new friends. After injuries kept me from playing for a while, the relaxed and fun style of football was the perfect way to get back into the game. As a Type 1 diabetic, it also helps me stay active and manage my levels while enjoying the sport I love.

Our Ambassadors

Here at UCFC we are open to everyone, no matter footballing experience or gender. If you want to play football in the UCFC way, you are in the team.

Our ambassadors are here to share their story, but also welcome new players from different groups and communities into our weekly sessions. So if your a bit nervous about getting involved, and think that having a chat with someone beforehand could help, then feel free to reach out.

Why United Cornwall FC?

As a queer trans guy, I know team sports can be difficult to navigate because they’re often strictly separated by gender. But when I play with UCFC that’s not a problem because it’s open to all genders. It doesn’t matter your identity, sexuality or background, we’re all just here for the same reason: to play football and have a laugh!

Before I came to my first session, I was worried about other players not accepting me, or treating me differently because I was visibly queer, but everyone was welcoming and it’s never been an issue. I’ve been coming regularly ever since, and look forward to the sessions each week :)
